The Environmental Review Workshop (Environmental Review, Inc. is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit public benefit organization) was organized in July 2016 and first published on the web in January 2017.
We work for protection of human health and the environment by reviewing documents which are electronically posted or noticed on the internet by governmental agencies, typically for 30-day public comment periods. Other activities include advocating for expansion of electronic postings by governmental agencies and education through providing training and experience for aspiring technical reviewers. We have provided comments on electronically posted environmental documents for about 30 states and expanding across all 50 states, the District of Columbia and territories.
A major tenet of our work is that most, if not all activities are conducted electronically. This includes searching for notices of public comment periods displayed on governmental websites, reviewing electronic documents posted on websites, reviewing notices of document availability and making requests via email to receive electronic documents, and enrolling in email subscription services for receiving notices of public comment periods or electronic postings, and for reviewing the documents. Collaborative reviews are conducted on a document management system on the cloud. Comments to governmental agencies are provided via email. Instructions for conducting technical reviews are discussed in educational articles and through individual instruction. Since environmental notices are also published in local newspapers, we also locate projects that way.
The organization relies on volunteers and donations to cover website hosting fees have been made by the Board of Directors.
The Board of Directors for the organization is comprised of three individuals: Tom Price - Program Manager, San Jose, California, Scott Brandt-Erichsen Esq. - Board of Directors Member, Ketchikan, Alaska, and Chris Green - Board of Directors Member, Portland Oregon.
